As I was creating special Valentine's for the girls and their classes I couldn't help but think of a sweet family living just 10 minutes from me that was preparing for Valentine's Day in a much different way. In fact, I doubt they were thinking of Valentine's and cards and giant boxes of chocolate at all. This is because they are the Kranz family. The family of JLK - a sweet 6 year old girl who sadly passed away just 2 short days ago. Her mom has been keeping a blog since JLK's diagnosis of DIPG. Her words are honest. They are gut wrenching. It has been her words that remind me to not take any day for granted with my girls. It reminds to cherish the opportunity to make silly Valentine's for my girls. So that is what I did. I let the girls pick any Valentine idea they wanted and I helped them make them. I smiled through over 90 Valentine's. And not one complaint came from my mouth, because I know just how much the Kranz family wishes they could be planning Valentine's for JLK's Kindergarten class and not planning her Celebration of Life.
Then to celebrate the love of our family and Valentine's Day we made heart shaped pizza, ate pie and enjoyed our time together. We cherished every messy moment.

Sometimes you just need to let them eat cake. Or rather, pie.
Cherish the days you have with your kids and loved ones. You never know how quickly your life will change. And how you will long for just one messy night of pizza making and pie eating.
